Silhouette vintage window project and new machine + a sale!

 blog-86_01-xl
Hi there friends! I am just swinging in today with a few tidbits of news from Silhouette America, and I also wanted to show you a project I recently finished with my Silhouette Cameo. 🙂 The image above shows the GREAT promo they are running on the Silhouette Portrait right now. All the benefits of the big machine in a smaller size makes the price small as well! The bundle includes: a Portrait machine, 1 pack of Printable Gold Foil, 1 pack of Printable Silver Foil, 1 pack of Vellum and 1 grey dust cover. Just use our coupon code STORAGE at checkout for this deal!

Here is the project I just finished with my Cameo. Last summer we were at my in-laws house and ended up in their basement. I noticed my MIL had two cool old windows stashed in the corner. She said she’d meant to use them for years, but never got around to doing anything with them, and if I wanted them I could take them home! Old windows are getting harder and harder to come by thanks to our good buddy Pinterest. 😉 So I was thrilled (and so was my FIL! He got junk out of his basement! Of course my hubby put it into ours, so he was less than enthused, LOL).
P1220602-imp

So, with the old window this was really easy. I had the photos we had taken last Fall of our family printed out into 5×7 sizes. I cut scrapbook paper for the backgrounds and matted the pics with solid colored card stock. Each panel was like a little mini scrapbook page-super fun! 🙂

After all that was done, I cut this file with vinyl on my Silhouette, along with my boys names using this font. Vinyl works beautifully on glass, and I love the way the Silhouette cuts these gorgeous detailed images so perfectly. It makes projects like these a breeze.

Now, I just need to get some heavy duty picture hangers to put on the back of this, then I can put it up on the wall. 🙂

Also, DON’T FORGET! Beginning on the 22nd you will be able to get the NEW Silhouette Cameo  at Silhouette America! For the first week, it will ONLY be available on the site and not in stores! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by CSI. Have a great day! 🙂

Now for a great product review!

This is Cicily, the Pink Dalmatian Scrapper and I’m super excited to be kicking off this October with a review of the Silhouette Chalkboard vinyl! I’ve been wanting to get my hand on some, so this was perfect.

It works just like regular vinyl in your cutting machine. I chose to make labels for some of my storage boxes.

PicMonkey Collage

I measured my boxes (the Walmart plastic shoe-boxes for $1) and adjusted the size of the label to fit. I set the depth on my cutting blade to cut just the vinyl, not the backing. After the labels were cut, I removed all the excess vinyl around my labels so I could see what I was working with. I could never find anywhere that says you need to condition chalkboard vinyl, but I know for chalkboard paint you need to condition it. To condition you just take the side of your chalk and run it over the vinyl. Then wipe off. What I read was that your images can become permanent if you don’t condition the chaklboard. Again not sure if this is needed with vinyl, but I also got the “used” chalkboard look once I wiped them off. Next I took a chalkboard pen and inked a border around the labels to give them a little pizzazz.

A great tip I’ve come across was to sharpen your chalk! Just use a pencil sharpener and you have an easier tip to write with. Warning…can cause nails on a chalkboard chills!

I love how the chalkboard vinyl labels turned out. The chalkboard vinyl was extremely easy to use and can have so many uses. Now check out what CSI has in store this month!

Now, since you’ve read the review by the fabulous Cicily, you can link up YOUR happy place at the bottom of the post from now until Thursday afternoon (October 9, 2014). The winner for this week will receive a 12″ roll of CHALKBOARD vinyl from Silhouette America like the one that is being reviewed here today!

Another thing we want to mention is that your room doesn’t have to be a “traditional” craft room. We would love to see photography studios, art spaces, sewing rooms, and more! The thing we are MOST interested in seeing is creative & useful storage solutions in the rooms of real crafters and artists. The rooms do not have to be fancy or magazine worthy to catch our eye or win the contest. Please share your happy place, we would LOVE to see it!

Recipe Organization & Silhouette bundle deal

Hi friends! It’s Noelle today stopping in to show you my latest and greatest. This is not craft storage, but recipe storage which is almost as good, right? Besides, I got to get crafty MAKING this binder, so I think it counts. 😉

P1220371-imp

I used to have a recipe box. It was just not functional for me. It was too full and I’d end up having to take out all the cards just to flip through them. I think this will work a lot better for me, and I am storing it with my cookbooks.

I used this “Favorite Recipes” cut file to cut the vinyl on the cover and the spine of my notebook.

P1220372-imp

Inside I arranged the recipes in plastic pages with pockets. I like that I will be able to wipe them off if they get grease or sauce splattered on them. I used the same sections I’d had in my box, and made a divider for each section of recipes. I used the frame from the cut file above, and the sweetpea font for the words.

Storage Solutions Roundup: Using tension rods for flexible storage

Hello crafty storage mavens! It’s Noelle stopping in today with a great idea for you.

P1210500-impI recently purchased a used ink pad organizer that rotates. I used to use this vintage train case to hold my ink pads, but the one issue I had was that without individual shelves, if I pulled out a lower pad, then they all dropped and sometimes spilled all over my desk. So, when I saw the used organizer for sale, I figured it was a good bet. But then I had this (IMO) uber-cool vintage piece that was not being used! 🙁

P1160085I do design work for a stamp company called The Cat’s Pajamas, and am lucky enough to get a nice discount on all the things I don’t get for free (thank you, sweet Alma!) and a few months back I purchased a whole LOT of beautiful Divine Twine in pretty colors. I love that stuff, I really do use it for a ton of things, and I love that I don’t worry about  running out with the big spools. I just had it sitting on my shelf, though, and I wanted to hang it somewhere that I could access it a bit easier.

P1210503-impOne day, the proverbial light bulb went on, and I wondered if I could use mini tension rods in the train case to hang up my twine! I went to Bed Bath & Beyond with a stack of 20% coupons in hand (they really do have the most generous coupon policy I’ve ever seen, they take multiple coupons, expired coupons, etc. SO cool!) and I picked up several packs of these tiny rods and took them home. I was able to take off the end caps to slide on my twine spools, and….. Voila!

P1210500-imp

🙂

Well, the more I thought on it, I figured there had to be other folks out there who had made some cool storage solutions with tension rods. They are cheap (particularly if you pick them up used!), and come in a myriad of lengths!

Here’s a few that I found:

Sew Many Ways: Tension rods between table legs.

Midwest Living: Easy Organizing Solutions for Every Room Beautiful storage for large papers and ribbons! You could also store large cuts of fabric this way!

Yahoo Homes: 10 Ways to Store Kitchen Necessities I realize these are cutting boards, but wouldn’t this work just as well for Silhouette cutting mats, 12″ stacks of paper, or stamp sets?

Thanks so much for stopping by! Don’t forget, we have an awesome giveaway going on right now from Organize More! To comment to win, go to the previous post and chat us up a bit! 🙂

Have a fabulous day,

Noelle
