As a crafters we’re always on the lookout for the best way to store all our crafting supplies in our spaces.

There are so many products on the market that are made just for craft storage, but some of those solutions can get pretty pricey.

So today I would like to share with you some hidden gems that might be in your kitchen that you could use to store some of your stash.

First up is a little bit of upcycling.

These old baby food jars were cleaned out and hung up with magnets under a cabinet to provide color coordinated button storage. Genius I say!

Not to mention mostly free since you would be re-using something that normally goes in the trash.

How about canning jars?

I’m sure you’ve seen all over the web how these beauties can help neaten up your space.

With the clear jars you can still see what’s inside and yet everything is neat and orderly.

Just brighten up the lids with some paint, drill a hole and add a pretty drawer pull to the top, and you have some really cute looking jars to sort your supplies into!

These are just plain adorable!

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-purpose & Re-use: Jars, Cups & Canisters

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-purpose & Re-use: Jars, Cups & Canisters!
Craft Storage inspiration is sitting on your shelf…re-think those jars, cups & canisters you’re no longer using!

Hi Crafters!

It’s Kim from Stamping Imperfection here to share some quick and easy ideas to corral your tools, ribbons and embellishments.

Do you ever feel like it would feel great to get organized, but you’re not sure where to start and the prices on the fancy organizing tools hold you back?

I know exactly how you feel!

I’ve been re-designing my crafting space to have a more cohesive look.  In the process, I’ve been searching for ways to organize my stash that won’t break the bank.

I re-discovered this great post on CSI featuring Laura Vegas and her craft room: Storage In Every Nook & Cranny

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: Jars, Cups & Containers - Mason Jar Storage

This is a beautifully cohesive look. I love the color this adds to a craft room!

The added advantage to using clear jars is that you can see exactly what you have and where it is!  You don’t need a color coded map to find things!

(Don’t laugh, I’ve seen craft rooms that have those!)

Another CSI post from ages ago led me to find crafters using salt and pepper shakers to store glitter!

Check out the original post: Glitter Storage With A Vintage Twist where Liz from the Pink Petticoat blog shared this great idea!

Need a clever idea for kids’ craft supplies?

Check out this cute jar storage idea I found on Pinterest via House to Home UK:

Simply glue a kids’ toy to the jar lid and paint it!

So simple, easy to find your things, and it looks great on a shelf or a desk.

I had two great finds of my own while browsing the local hardware store.

(I teach physics and I craft so that means that I love browsing hardware stores!)

I’ve been looking for something to replace the plastic cup that I use to hold my must-have tools on my studio work table and I found this great glass mug for just a couple of dollars:

Of course, I added some stamping and embellishments to dress it up.

You can check out the finished product on my blog at Stamping Imperfection!

Another find for me was a giant Mason Jar.

I’ve been looking for a pretty way to store retired ribbons that I can’t use on my blog anymore, but which I still plan to craft with.

I bought one jar, but I’ll be going back tomorrow for a couple more of these!

These will look great on a shelf and they will make it easy to find my older ribbons.

Just One Tip for the New Year – Small Embellishment storage

Hi everyone, it’s Sharon here with an embellishment storage idea as part of our Just one Tip for the New Year series this month.   I like to have pretty items of my stash on display rather than hidden away in drawers – particularly if it’s items I can store in a rainbow order as for me, that’s just one of the nicest things to look at!

A few years ago I came across this little white cupboard in a gift shop.  It was on sale, but I didn’t really know what I’d put in it.  My boyfriend was with me at the time and told me that I should get it anyway, as it was such a bargain I’d regret it if I didn’t.  He was right.

010

When I got home I found a little jar that I’d bought a long time ago in an art supplies shop and discovered it was the perfect fit for the little cubbies.  Whilst looking online for similar jars, I came across this site selling cosmetic jars and realised this was a much cheaper option than buying from an art shop.  That’s a UK site, but if you google for 30ml cosmetic glass jars I’m sure you’ll find a local supplier to you.

011

The jars are the perfect size for flat-back pearls or sequins, and look so pretty all together.   They’d look just as good lined up on a narrow shelf.

012

I hope my jar storage has given you some ideas for your own space.

Thanks for popping by!

Sharon

Craft Room: the Crafted Sparrow

Hi Everyone! It’s Cicily with a beautiful craft room to show you today. I came across Becca’s trendy room, the Crafted Sparrow, on Pinterest.

She turned her formal living room into her very own crafty space.

Becca painted her dark furniture black for a uniform look and her latest pride and joy is her Chalky Finish white craft table that takes center stage in her room.

Her fabrics are housed in these bookshelves, with her favorites on display in the wire baskets.

Like most of us, Becca admits to a wrapping paper addiction. I love her simple solution, this basic linen hamper.

Check out Becca’s complete craft room tour on the Crafted Sparrow blog here! Tell Becca CSI sent you.

I’m sure you will love her space as much as I did!

Just One Tip: Repurposed Jars

Hello Y’all! It’s Cicily with a quick tip for you today.

Jar Storage seems to be all the rage lately. I’m a pack rat at heart and hate to throw anything away (Certain areas of my house can attest to this). I love storing things in glass jars/cups/containers.  Every time I use a glass jar and throw it away I cringe. Well last year it was time to make some pickles. I found this great recipe on Pinterest and because of the method I could use repurposed jars! Good thing because I had a mass quantity of cucumbers.

I wanted to share this One Tip: How to clean the gunk off those great food jars so you can repurpose them!

Of course I found this on Pinterest!

I did this and for the most part it worked! Now you can repurpose your jars for craft or food storage!

Happy Jar Cleaning!

Sugar Sugar Studio – My Flikr Fave

Welcome to Craft Storage Idea’s special feature…Flickr Craft Rooms!

This is Cicily the Pink Dalmatian Scrapper and I actually signed up for Flickr to work out this post. I have to say that I’m actually glad to be signed up. There’s nothing more frustrating then trying to follow a link on Pinterest and have it end at Flickr and not be able to see more. Problem solved!

Well on to the craft room that caught my attention, Sugar Sugar Studio.

If you could take spun cotton candy and frosting and turn it into a craft room you’d get Sugar Sugar. So aptly named. While lacking a full room shot I love all the bits and pieces that certanly make this room unique.

Check out this Sweet banner and inspiration board.

This cabinet has been with her for a while, but to coordinate it with the Sugar theme, she painted it white and Mod Podged patterned paper pieces to the back panel.

Every corner and shelf is a treat with all the unique storage containers like these old cupcake tins.

These jars are re-purposed garage sale finds that have been painted to look so sweet.

You can see the whole Sugar Sugar studio set here.

Hope you have a sweet tooth!

Color Me Happy!

Hello friends, Lisa here once again! My assignment for this post was “Pick a Topic” ~ what to do ,what to do!! I went back to me childhood days and have some cute ideas for storing or displaying crayons. I have loved to color ever since I could hold a crayon. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy stamping and card making. In fact I think I would probably still enjoy a coloring book and a box of new Crayolas! Have a look at the fun options I found on Pinterest. These would be perfect for little ones at home or in a classroom.

This inexpensive Lucite box is a great option for a more modern storage unit. Putting many boxes together for assorted craft supplies is a great organizational idea!

Daring DIY: Decorated Jar Lids

It’s Cicily with this week’s Daring DIY. I’m not sure how daring this is, but I’ve been wanting to personalize some jars in my craft room. If you’ve seen my SUPER Craft Room then I bet you can guess what I had in mind!

IMG_3988

I have these awesome jars that I picked up at my favorite thrift store. I love my ribbon, flowers and bakers twine showing thru. However the jar lids were painted and not only don’t they match my room, but the paint job isn’t the best.

After picking out my paper I cut circles larger then the lids. I actually decided to keep the yellow lid but run a pattern strip of paper along the outer edge.

IMG_3991

Next I used Mod Podge to “mold” the paper to the lid. I started by covering the top of the lid & the paper with the gooey stuff. If you give the paper a little time to soak up then it’s easy to wrap around things. Just be careful not to let it tear.  I used a rubber band to help hold the wrapping until it dried.

IMG_3993

When it was almost dry I cut the extra paper off leaving just enough to wrap under the lid. don’t leave too much or it could interfere with the lid tightening on the jar. Once it dries enough to remove the rubber band, then I applied Mod Podge to the outside to protect the paper.

At the last minute I added a little “something” to my yellow lid!

IMG_3999

Overall this was a quick DIY and very simple.

Just One Tip: Repurpose Old Jars

Screen Shot 2013-03-01 at 10.12.03 AM

 Nest of Posies jar storage

Hi all! Noelle here today with a quick tip on re-using something that we all use every day – jars!  I have always used jars in my craft space. I love that they come in all shapes and sizes, and many of them are my favorite price – absolutely free!  I usually save any jar that I empty in my kitchen, run it through the dishwasher and remove any leftover labels by soaking in hot water and dish detergent, baby oil or Goo-Gone.  If the lids have a logo on them, you can always spray paint them or decoupage them with fabric or decorative paper.

Decorative Jar Lids

Here’s some pics of some great ways to stash the jars.  I am absolutely IN LOVE with this DIY rack from Epheriell Designs!  Isn’t this awesome? You could make them in different sizes to accommodate whatever size jars you might have.

Screen Shot 2013-03-01 at 10.07.03 AM

Isn’t this clever? Love this idea of screwing the jar lids to an underside of a shelf, and then just unscrewing the jar to access what you need. No more lids cluttering up your workspace! I have actually seen this idea implemented in some craft rooms in real life. It would work particularly well to use baby food jars and use them for small embellishments like brads, buttons, etc. Or you could sort small embellishments like color; for example putting all your red eyelets, gems, and buttons in one jar, aqua ones in another, and so on.

 Good Housekeeping

Loving how this tiered organizer is used to stash her jars! The clear glass still makes it easy to see where everything is, all the while keeping in neatly corralled and not in piles. J Maybe mine could use a few small jars as an addition!

I’ve always used a jar to store my buttons. But something like this would also work well for single, wood-mount stamps, pens, ribbons, etc.
