As a crafters we’re always on the lookout for the best way to store all our crafting supplies in our spaces.

There are so many products on the market that are made just for craft storage, but some of those solutions can get pretty pricey.

So today I would like to share with you some hidden gems that might be in your kitchen that you could use to store some of your stash.

First up is a little bit of upcycling.

These old baby food jars were cleaned out and hung up with magnets under a cabinet to provide color coordinated button storage. Genius I say!

Not to mention mostly free since you would be re-using something that normally goes in the trash.

How about canning jars?

I’m sure you’ve seen all over the web how these beauties can help neaten up your space.

With the clear jars you can still see what’s inside and yet everything is neat and orderly.

A wine rack?

No, not for keeping your wine handy when you’re crafting, but with a few glasses, it makes amazing marker and pen storage right on your desktop or wall!

This super smart crafter saved some jars from the kitchen – I spy spaghetti sauce and pickle jars here!

Just brighten up the lids with some paint, drill a hole and add a pretty drawer pull to the top, and you have some really cute looking jars to sort your supplies into!

These are just plain adorable!

Now for a great product review!

This is Cicily, the Pink Dalmatian Scrapper and I’m super excited to be kicking off this October with a review of the Silhouette Chalkboard vinyl! I’ve been wanting to get my hand on some, so this was perfect.

It works just like regular vinyl in your cutting machine. I chose to make labels for some of my storage boxes.

PicMonkey Collage

I measured my boxes (the Walmart plastic shoe-boxes for $1) and adjusted the size of the label to fit. I set the depth on my cutting blade to cut just the vinyl, not the backing. After the labels were cut, I removed all the excess vinyl around my labels so I could see what I was working with. I could never find anywhere that says you need to condition chalkboard vinyl, but I know for chalkboard paint you need to condition it. To condition you just take the side of your chalk and run it over the vinyl. Then wipe off. What I read was that your images can become permanent if you don’t condition the chaklboard. Again not sure if this is needed with vinyl, but I also got the “used” chalkboard look once I wiped them off. Next I took a chalkboard pen and inked a border around the labels to give them a little pizzazz.

A great tip I’ve come across was to sharpen your chalk! Just use a pencil sharpener and you have an easier tip to write with. Warning…can cause nails on a chalkboard chills!

I love how the chalkboard vinyl labels turned out. The chalkboard vinyl was extremely easy to use and can have so many uses. Now check out what CSI has in store this month!

Now, since you’ve read the review by the fabulous Cicily, you can link up YOUR happy place at the bottom of the post from now until Thursday afternoon (October 9, 2014). The winner for this week will receive a 12″ roll of CHALKBOARD vinyl from Silhouette America like the one that is being reviewed here today!

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT – Curver Rattan style storage boxes

Hi, it’s Sharon today stopping by with a product highlight. I recently saw these plastic storage trays on special offer in my local supermarket and grabbed a couple to see if they’d be useful.   When I got them home I realised they are the perfect size for quite a few crafty things. The ones I have are the small size, but they do have a selection of larger sizes too. They come in black, brown or cream and what I like about them is that they are pretty strong and sturdy, and have really useful handles at each end which means I can grab one easily and take it to my craft desk.

The small size are perfect for 6×6 paper pads as you can see:

Curver1

I’ve used one for my envelopes:

Curver2

Then I used a couple more to store my card blanks, and finished card samples.

Curver3

Here in the UK I picked them up for just £1.50 each in Morrisons so I’m just going to grab a couple each time I go food shopping.   Since I’m in the process of building a new craft space I thought I’d find some shelving solution that works for them when I start planning the furniture.  Curver are an international company so I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find them wherever you are. Here’s a link to them on the US website and more details.

I think I might try some of the other sizes to see what use they might have as I’m very impressed with the quality.

Thank you for stopping by CSI!

Sharon
