Craft Storage: Contributor Storage Solutions – Fabric Storage

Craft Storage: Contributor Storage Solutions – Fabric Storage
Craft storage ideas for quilting and sewing rooms!

Hello,

It’s Amanda again!

I’m here to share with you a quick solution that I use in my craft room to get those precarious piles of fabric out of the closet and out in the open where my collection can inspire my creativity.

First, I ordered some comic book backer boards from Amazon.com, similar to these Ultra Pro Regular Size Comic Boards.

Of course you could use cereal box cardboard, or regular cardboard, if you’re patient enough to save up enough pieces for your stash.

I’m not that patient.

Then, just fold your fabric into a width that is slightly smaller than the height of your cardboard, and begin wrapping the fabric around the cardboard.

To secure the end of the fabric to the mini bolt, use a sewing pin, or a clothes pin if you’re worried about poking fingers later.

For storage, simply line up your mini bolts of fabric on a shelf or bookcase.

Super simple!

It looks like you have a mini craft store right in your craft room and the fabric is out where you can see it.

Just seeing all the pretty patterns together makes my fingers itch to turn it into a beautiful quilt or to sew up a cute stuffed animal!

(This is Steph: I don’t even sew and I’d love to have this kind of inspiration in my craft room! Great idea, Amanda!)

It’s been fun – thanks for joining us today!

And when you get a chance, please stop by my blog, Krafting Kreations, and say hello!

Craft Storage as Unique as You Are!

Craft Storage as Unique as You Are!
Craft storage uniqueness by and/or for you!

Hello Beautiful!

It’s Amanda here and this time I get to share with you some unique and fun ways you can store all your crafty goodies.

Now when I think of unique storage, I think of DIYing your way to an inexpensive, functional and fun creative space that really expresses who you are.

So here are eight awesome DIY projects that can help you make your space uniquely you!

First up is this amazing craft storage table that was built by Shara (Palmettos & Pigtails) and her husband using Anna White plans.

This beautiful table will not only hold a lot of tools and supplies, but it’ll make your space look awesome!

Oh washi! So much washi!

What to do?

Well, here’s a fun tutorial (from Crafts Unleashed) for turning what looks to be a jewelry holder or a mug tree into a fun washi tape holder!

Sometimes you can make the most amazing storage from things that you have lying around, things that you might even need to get rid of.

Dinah of DIYInsired.com took the spring from her daughter’s crib and combined it with some baskets, pails and mason jars to make this fun and interesting storage item!

Got some scrap wood lying around?

Well maybe you can take a cue from Johnnie of Saved By Love Creations and put it together, paint it up, and add rods and clips, and it can store all sorts of fun things.

I can especially see this as a display area for kid’s artwork, scrapbook pages or your handcrafted masterpieces!

Steph’s thinking this would also make a great storage solution for your papercrafting embellishments, or even crafting tools!

Maybe you have some old drawers lying around from that old dresser that fell apart?

Well paint them up, put on some bright knobs and hang them on the wall!

Wait. What?

Yup just hang some old drawers on the wall for some unique and adorable storage shelves.

A great idea via Everything Etsy!

Decorating with pallets is all the rage.

Why not take something that’s typically thrown away and turn it into something amazing?

Saved By Love‘s Johnnie combined a pallet with a variety of thrift store shelves to make this interesting storage piece.

It’s a work of art in itself!

What about turning five file cabinets into one fabulously large work table with tons of storage?

Click through to see the tutorial from Shara at Little Gray Table on how to put this beautiful piece together.

Steph’s in love with this idea!

Think outside the box!

Just about anything that holds anything can be used for craft storage.

Take a look at how Rebecca of Older and Wisor updated a pie safe for her craft storage, and how she designed her craft room with only $75!

Now that takes some creativity!

Harness your creativity to create storage and organization options that are perfectly suited to your needs.

What do you think?

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-purpose & Re-use – Garage Sale Finds

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-purpose & Re-use – Garage Sale Finds
Check out three garage sale finds that are ideal for storing crafting supplies!

Hi!

It’s Amanda here!

I’m back to share with you some great storage ideas for your crafty space!

It’s summer and every weekend you see garage sale signs all over the place.

The saying goes that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

Well, there are hidden gems that you can frequently find at garage sales and I have three ideas
I’d like to share with you today.

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: 3 Garage Sale Finds to Use for Crafting Storage (image)

This wooden toolbox is great for keeping brushes, paint and paint misters handy,
right on your work table.

And, if you need the space, it’s easy to move to another location – just grab
the big handle on top.

This would also work great to hold jars of your most frequently used tools like scissors,
pencils, a ruler, glue and more!

Next up is a vintage metal tool box.

This is the kind of toolbox that you would expect to see in a home or a garage.

I just love the vintage look!

This keeps my jewelry-making tools corralled and in a handy spot right next to my beads.

If I want to work somewhere else in the house, it’s easy to close the lid and transport my tools wherever I need to go.

Now, if you’re looking for a great way to display some of your crafty goodness, look no further than a wooden DVD storage cabinet!

This cabinet was originally designed to hang vertically, but I added some little angle brackets from the hardware store, along with some screws and anchors, and I have a shelf that fits perfectly above my book case and allows me to display some of my carefully crafted projects.

You could, of course, use this method to store just about anything on a shelf, all from something you can pick up at a garage sale for a few bucks.

So, when you’re out prowling around garage sales (and flea markets, yard sales and vintage fairs) keep an eye out for things that can be used as crafting supplies, tools and projects storage.

Shiny and new is nice, but when you’re on a budget, it’s nice to find storage solutions with character that work for your space.

I hope I’ve inspired you to think outside the box and re-purpose something that works great for you!

Craft Storage Ideas News: A BIG Announcement!

Hello CSI Friends,

We have BIG NEWS to share with you.

Craft Storage Ideas Has A New Owner!

As some of you might have seen, we recently announced that Craft Storage Ideas (CSI) was for sale.

Our goal was to find a new owner for CSI, someone we felt confident could not only carry on with delivering great organizing information and inspiration, but grow CSI to include even more craft storage information and inspiration…for YOU!

Of course, making the decision to let our “baby” go was not arrived at easily – we have really loved running CSI and getting to know so many of you, our amazing readers.

And of course, we’ve also really enjoyed working with our amazing contributors:

Aren’t they awesome?!

THANK YOU for being such a great audience for our crafty storage information and inspiration, and for helping us to grow such an important resource for crafters!

And don’t worry CSI fans, most of the wonderful ladies who’ve contributed content to CSI aren’t leaving – they’re staying on with Steph & her team!

(*Note: Cicily Lesher has posted her last contribution for CSI)

And now?

It’s time for an introduction to CSI’s new owner.

Craft Storage Ideas' New Owner: Stephanie Hackney (image)
Craft Storage Ideas‘ New Owner: Stephanie Hackney

Say Hello to Stephanie!

Stephanie Hackney (a.k.a. Steph), a former professional organizer, long-time craft industry trade columnist, crafting addict and fearless leader of PaperCrafter’s Corner is taking over!

Steph reached out to us when she heard CSI was for sale and, based on what we’ve seen her accomplish with PaperCrafter’s Corner since she took it over in 2013, we feel very comfortable handing over the care and feeding of CSI to her as we move onto new ventures.

We know she has lots of ideas to further enhance the CSI experience for you and to provide you with even more organizing information and inspiration.

Now don’t worry, Steph and her team are not planning on eliminating any of what you’ve grown to love about CSI – their goal is to give you even more of what you love!

It’s time for a new organizing and crafting addict to bring her energy, excitement, craft industry experience & business savvy to CSI!

Steph’s super excited to get to know all of you and to bring even more cool stuff to the CSI community.

Steph’s Thoughts on CSI

“I have long admired Craft Storage Ideas as a valuable resource for crafters, from the time of its founding by Susan Mintmire and Rebecca Boyer, to the present, under the leadership of Noelle McAdams and Shelley Walsh.

It has been fun to see CSI evolve as Noelle and Shelley took over – I know they and the CSI contributors have worked hard to ensure that visitors to the CSI site (and associated social media pages) always found valuable content, a positive experience, and a reason to return again and again.

My team and I intend to expand the CSI offering by making necessary behind-the-scenes changes and enhancements (some of which have already taken place), and adding both new functionality and new information based largely on what the CSI community tells us it wants (yes, this is YOUR chance to make your voice heard – let us know what YOU want to find at CSI!).

The CSI contributors (who I’m happy to report are staying on!) will work hard to provide you with even more information, more inspiration and, hopefully, even more fun than what you’ve already experienced as a fan of CSI!

It is our goal to build on what Susan, Rebecca, Noelle and Shelley have created for you and to make the CSI offering even better!”

As you can imagine, handing over something we’ve worked hard on has been a bit bittersweet.

But it was time, and we believe CSI is in good hands!

We look forward to seeing CSI grow and prosper and we wish you all well.

So, what will we be doing now?

Noelle

“I will be keeping up with my hubby, our active lifestyle, my teaching and theater schedules, and my 3 busy boys! I sure have loved running this site, the fantastic contributors I’ve worked with over the years, and all the wonderful readers. I will miss you, CSI, and am so excited to see what comes next for you. My life is wonderfully full of other important things right now. I am closing my personal blog for the time being, but I will forever be a crafter. In fact, I am at a weekend scrapbook retreat as we speak!”

Shelley

“I will be continuing work with my Etsy shop, There Be Unicorns, that I run with my best friend. We sell hand-painted housewares, original paintings, crocheted items and other fun things, and I look forward to putting more energy into it. 🙂 I will also, be continuing my work as a freelance graphic designer, and spending some much needed time with my husband. I’ve had so much fun working with CSI and can’t wait to see what comes next!!”

Thank You!

We know you’ll support Stephanie and CSI moving forward – Steph & the team are going to work hard for you and we’re sure you’ll be thrilled with the CSI of the future.

We know we’ll be watching!
