Craft Storage: Crafting on the Go – Kids Crafting
Craft storage ideas for kids’ crafting supplies while you’re traveling!

Traveling with kids?

Need ideas for keeping them busy and out of your hair?

Pack their crafts to GO!

Hello everyone, it’s Hazel from Sunny South Africa here today to share ideas for traveling with your kids (and their crafts).

OK, I don’t have any advice on kids, BUT I’ve loads to share on traveling with crafts!

Get yourself a cup of coffee and ENJOY THE RIDE!

Let’s start out with some “workspaces”…

First up is an all-time favorite from Martha Stewartthe Martha Stewart Crafts Portable Workstation.

This one will work while traveling as well as at your destination.

And, while your kiddies are in the pool, you can use it to write a post card / keep up with a bit of journaling.

Now, if you’re anything like me, why not DIY?

This craft bag by Juliana Gnomes would be perfect, especially if coloring is at the top of your kid’s list!

I’ve made this “art bag” myself and what’s GREAT about it is that I’ve included a mini chalk board and colored chalk – nothing that a wet wipe can’t get rid of.

Now let’s look at some containers to hold all your supplies…

Divided boxes are perfect!

The best part is that you can get them from your local hardware or discount store – no need to buy expensive and exclusive craft products.

This Craft Travel Kit by jtanddolly shared on the DISboards.com feed is perfect!!

Note: You’ll have to scroll down through all the wonderful Road Trip Help ideas to get to this one!

Also see their assortment of traveling games (I love the Road Trip Bingo!) and, although I know this has nothing to do with craft storage, their food travel kit as well – clever and also perfect for a crafting event or crop!

And even an ordinary soap box is great for storing travel crafting goodies like crayons and beads.

Check out how Deanna from Shady Tree Diary re-purposed a soap box for crafting supplies.

A caddy is always a good option.

This Creative Options Large Craft Caddy (via Gen Geigley’s blog) has eight outer storage pockets and a removable inner tote that snaps on or off.

I love the three little pockets in front that hold pens or pencils!

I’ve used tackle boxes on numerous occasions, but this Two-Tray Box from Creative Options is already on my Christmas wish list!

The Two-Tray Box by Creative Options has two cantilever trays with 13-24 adjustable compartments and tons of storage in the base.

This is ideal for art supplies for kids of any age, and would make a great locker organizer.

Steph adds that this would also be great for mixed media or doodling supplies for crafty adults!

For those of you who love videos, you can see the new Creative Options products on either Amy Tangerine’s blog or on Amy Tangerine’s YouTube channel.

Have fun – I loved checking them out!

That’s it – n
o more excuses for bored kids while traveling or on vacation!

With a bit of effort before you leave, you can have some time to yourself and the kiddos can have lots and lots of FUN!

  1. Great ideas! I especially like the DVD case coloring set and the Divided boxes for crafts or food!! I am going to make each of my grandchildren one of the DVD case sets so that when they are in the car they will stil be able to create!! Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Barb,

Yup, that is a great idea! I just took a ton of crafting supplies to the island retreat where we take two of the DGDs and we had a blast creating together! Even got them (ages 11 and 5) started with scrapbooking! I’ll be sharing some of the pix shortly.

Don’t you just love Hazel’s bag too? I sure do! I’m putting in an order. 😉

      Steph

  2. Lots of great ideas here! Loving the new blog too! Please keep it up as I have a whole new space to organize this fall. Enjoy your day 😉

    1. Pamela,

Thanks! Well, I should say thank Hazel – this was her creation!

We will definitely be keeping it up – lots of fun shares and ideas in process. 🙂

      Thanks for tuning in,

      Steph
