Craft storage ideas are all around us!

Hello craft storage lovers – we know, it’s been a while!

We’ve been working on craft storage ideas to share with you in 2016 and we thank you for hanging in there with us while we regrouped.

To kick things off, I’m sharing a quick handmade craft storage project I came across while perusing some new-to-me craft blogs – this project’s not only super simple, but one that’s perfect for using up your fabric and/or felt scraps.

This cute little Pixie Basket was created by Heidi Staples and found on her blog, Fabric Mutt – thanks to Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts for the link!

Craft Storage Ideas: Repurposing Household Items – Small Item Storage
Craft storage doesn’t have to be pricey – look around the house for unused items!

Who’s up for an inexpensive and easy-to-find storage solution?

How about a simple solution for keeping items in drawers sorted and accessible?

We’ve got a “Now why didn’t I think of that?!” solution for you…

Ice cube trays!

Not only do their compartments have sloped sides, making it easy to retrieve tiny items (just place your finger on what you want and slide it up the side!), they’re also short in stature, meaning they’ll easily fit into shallow drawers (drawers that often go unused because nothing fits in them!).

Craft storage ideas using a readily available, and often FREE, supply!

Do you ever feel that you want to live simpler and use what’s already available?

Hello fellow craft storage enthusiasts!

Hazel here to share one of my favorite topics – re-purposing of old / unused / broken items.

Today it’s PALLET POWER!

I’ve been gathering ideas on my Pinterest board, Pallet Power, as my husband and I are thinking about investing in a country retreat.

We want everything to be self-sustainable and what better way to start out than using unwanted pallets, right?

Not all my ideas are for craft storage, but 99% could be easily adapted for storing your stash, whatever your craft, hobby or interest might be.

Craft Storage as Unique as You Are!

Craft Storage as Unique as You Are!
Craft storage uniqueness by and/or for you!

Hello Beautiful!

It’s Amanda here and this time I get to share with you some unique and fun ways you can store all your crafty goodies.

Now when I think of unique storage, I think of DIYing your way to an inexpensive, functional and fun creative space that really expresses who you are.

So here are eight awesome DIY projects that can help you make your space uniquely you!

First up is this amazing craft storage table that was built by Shara (Palmettos & Pigtails) and her husband using Anna White plans.

This beautiful table will not only hold a lot of tools and supplies, but it’ll make your space look awesome!

Oh washi! So much washi!

What to do?

Well, here’s a fun tutorial (from Crafts Unleashed) for turning what looks to be a jewelry holder or a mug tree into a fun washi tape holder!

Sometimes you can make the most amazing storage from things that you have lying around, things that you might even need to get rid of.

Dinah of DIYInsired.com took the spring from her daughter’s crib and combined it with some baskets, pails and mason jars to make this fun and interesting storage item!

Got some scrap wood lying around?

Well maybe you can take a cue from Johnnie of Saved By Love Creations and put it together, paint it up, and add rods and clips, and it can store all sorts of fun things.

I can especially see this as a display area for kid’s artwork, scrapbook pages or your handcrafted masterpieces!

Steph’s thinking this would also make a great storage solution for your papercrafting embellishments, or even crafting tools!

Maybe you have some old drawers lying around from that old dresser that fell apart?

Well paint them up, put on some bright knobs and hang them on the wall!

Wait. What?

Yup just hang some old drawers on the wall for some unique and adorable storage shelves.

Decorating with pallets is all the rage.

Why not take something that’s typically thrown away and turn it into something amazing?

Saved By Love‘s Johnnie combined a pallet with a variety of thrift store shelves to make this interesting storage piece.

It’s a work of art in itself!

Think outside the box!

Just about anything that holds anything can be used for craft storage.

Take a look at how Rebecca of Older and Wisor updated a pie safe for her craft storage, and how she designed her craft room with only $75!

Now that takes some creativity!

Hi everyone, it’s Kim from Stamping Imperfection to share some fun ways to upcycle metal storage containers to use as craft storage.

I love giving new life to old items destined for the trash and I’ve noticed that this is a trait of all truly serious crafters!

We have a tendency to buy new crafting supplies and then figure out a craft storage solution for them before we even craft with them!

Why is it so satisfying to be able to take something from a thrift store or a garage sale and completely revamp it into something that not only has a useful purpose, but looks great?

Honestly, that is a crafting/DIY project unto itself!

Metal items can be a great addition to your craft room storage solutions.

You find them available everywhere and there are so many ways to change them up for just a few dollars.

They generally don’t require a ton of sanding and prep like a wooden item might.

Check out some of the clever ideas that I found to share with you for your craft storage…

Here is a tool box idea created by Virginia Fynes of fynesdesigns.com.

Tool boxes are great craft storage solutions.

You’ll see these at garage sales and thrift stores all the time and they are fantastic portable storage solutions that are sturdy!

Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose - Upcycled Metal Storage, Tool Box (image)
Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose – Upcycled Metal Storage, Tool Box

I love that we can see that Virginia only paid about three dollars for this tool box!

She transformed it for next to nothing with some metal spray paint and some gold vinyl dots – love this!

Virginia is using this for her Project Life storage.  Very clever!

I love that this is so portable – you can take this from your craft space to your kitchen table to a crop at a friend’s house.

Another easy way to transform a metal piece is to use Mod Podge like Sunush from Hometalk shows us with the metal cabinet below.

Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose - Upcycled Metal Storage, Metal Cabinet (image)
Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose – Upcycled Metal Storage, Metal Cabinet

This cabinet was covered with a double roll of wallpaper using Mod Podge.

How fabulous does this look?!

You can match any craft room decor with this idea for a few dollars in a few hours.

Imagine how much storage this cabinet would provide for you in your craft space.

Here’s another great upcycle!

This one looks like it takes a bit more artistic skill to create the incredible final result.

Those of us who might be less artistically inclined might create a similar effect using stencils or vinyl cut with a die-cutting machine.

Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose - Upcycled Metal Storage, Faux Finish Metal Cabinet (image)
Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose – Upcycled Metal Storage, Faux Finish Metal Cabinet

This beauty was created by Brittany from Pretty Handy Girl.

This is a thrift store find that was spray painted and given a faux zinc texture and adorned with chalkboard paint.

Rustoleum has several faux metal spray paints that create amazing metal pieces to add to your craft room.

This piece could provide great storage for your larger craft papers.

Another great little find transformed on a budget is this little tool chest from Katie at Little House of Four.

Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose - Upcycled Metal Storage, Metal Hardware Drawer Unit (image)
Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose – Upcycled Metal Storage, Metal Hardware Drawer Unit

This is a great little craft storage unit for embellishments, threads, scraps, small punches…you name it!

I love how simple this transformation is.

We all have that one amazing sheet of 12 x 12″ patterned paper that we had to have, but never wanted to cut up.

Why not use it for a project like this?

You can see that Katie added some labels to complete her project and to make it a really functional piece.

Simple, useful and budget friendly!

For my final share, I want to show you how great these metal items are even if you don’t do a single thing to them.

Here is an industrial looking craft room created by Larissa from Prodigal Pieces.

Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose - Upcycled Metal Storage, Industrial-Look Sewing Room (image)
Craft Storage: Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Purpose – Upcycled Metal Storage, Industrial-Look Sewing Room

I love the vintage industrial look that Larissa has achieved in her sewing space.

What does she store in those drawers?

Fabric!

Look below to see how she cleverly uses hanging files to hold her fabric stash.

I love this idea!

You can see exactly what you have without having piles of fabric on a shelf.  (My piles never stay neat.)

Whether you choose to leave the metal storage items as they are or you choose to use your craft skills to transform them into something new and fabulous, don’t pass these items by at garage sales, thrift stores and clearance bins.

They have unlimited possibilities!

Please leave a comment – let us know what great metal finds
you’ve transformed into useful craft storage!

Thanks for stopping by today and please stop by my Stamping Imperfection blog and say hello and check out my latest stamping projects!

Craft Storage Ideas: Project Storage – Trendy Projects

Craft Storage Ideas: Project Storage – Trendy Projects
Craft storage for your “trendy” projects & occasionally used supplies!

Hello, fellow craft storage enthusiasts,

It’s Hazel here, all the way from sunny South Africa (SA).

Today we’re talking about storing “trendy” projects, and occasionally-used project supplies.

I’m sure most crafters are like me and LOVE to give new trends a go.

The problem is, most of us can’t afford to buy everything to get a new hobby going and we don’t have the space to store all these different attempts.

Know what I mean??

I have tried beading, making flowers and brooches, paper quilling, making Christmas decorations, and LOTS and LOTS more.

However, I didn’t like any of these enough to allocate space to them in my Craft Closet.

But, I had to put them SOMEWHERE!

Today,  I’m sharing some good ideas from the internet that can be adapted to suit your needs, and I’ll be showing what I do when I give a trend a go.

I love the new ‘softie’ trend.

The original kit, dies and instructions are from Papertrey Ink, but as they don’t ship down under to sunny SA, I looked around Pinterest and Etsy for alternatives.

This softie from PrettyPrettythis softie from Kkomegii and these finger puppets from FloralBlossom’s Etsy shop inspired me to come up with my own softie.

You’re welcome to hop over to my blog to read all about my project, if you’re interested.

First of all, I decided on a shape and color scheme for my softie, racked my stash for what I already had and then bought the rest.

In the end, it came down to only two black beads for the antennae.

I decided to make a bee for my best and oldest friend who LOVES gardening.

Everything laid out looked like this:

First, let’s see the ideas I found for semi-permanent storage…

I LOVE plastic containers and this Art Bin Super Satchel single compartment would fit nearly any project.

Baskets are always great and I use them a lot.

They travel from my kitchen to the bedroom closets and, most of the time, end up in my craft room packed with goodness.

These porcelain fruit baskets featured in a previous Craft Storage Ideas post look awesome.

Read the original craftroom post from Sherry from My Favorite Things.

Do you have an empty drawer and some odd bowls or teacups?

This idea from Martha Stewart looks pretty!

Re-purpose what you already have – it’s a PERFECT solution for your trend trying.

If you’ve decided on a container, why not use cereal boxes to make pretty dividers?

Hop over to iHeart Organizing and see exactly how to create these.

What about re-purposing a tiered stand?

I found the idea below at Creating Keepsakes.

The original post is from Nicole Harper and she keeps all of her “go-to” products in this cool multi-tiered tray from Pottery Barn.

A multi-tiered basket, found in the kitchen aisle, would work just as well.

Craft Storage Ideas: Project Storage - Trendy Projects - Store Supplies in Re-Purposed Products, Like This Multi-Tier Tray Tower (image)

What about re-purposing an old suitcase?

The finished suitcase is from Inspire Co and the post shows exactly how it was done.

Craft Storage Ideas: Project Storage - Trendy Projects - Store Supplies in Re-Purposed Items, Like this Vintage Suitcase (image)

And this is the idea that I used.

In our attic I stored a suitcase that my son used during pre-school and I’ve converted it into a mobile trend station!

If you want to see my finished softies and re-purposed suitcase, hop over to my blog and read all about them – I would love to have you visit!

Do you have ideas to share?

We’d love to hear about and see what you do!

Please leave a comment, and a link, if you’ve tried your hand
at storing new trends (or occasionally used supplies),
and/or if you’ve made a Softie –
we’d all LOVE to see either or both!

Thanks for looking at another craft storage solution with me.

Have a GREAT day and remember to try something new – TODAY!!

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-purpose & Re-use – Garage Sale Finds
Check out three garage sale finds that are ideal for storing crafting supplies!

Hi!

It’s Amanda here!

I’m back to share with you some great storage ideas for your crafty space!

It’s summer and every weekend you see garage sale signs all over the place.

The saying goes that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

Well, there are hidden gems that you can frequently find at garage sales and I have three ideas
I’d like to share with you today.

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: 3 Garage Sale Finds to Use for Crafting Storage (image)

This wooden toolbox is great for keeping brushes, paint and paint misters handy,
right on your work table.

And, if you need the space, it’s easy to move to another location – just grab
the big handle on top.

This would also work great to hold jars of your most frequently used tools like scissors,
pencils, a ruler, glue and more!

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: 3 Garage Sale Finds to Use for Crafting Storage – Tool Box Tools Storage

Next up is a vintage metal tool box.

This is the kind of toolbox that you would expect to see in a home or a garage.

I just love the vintage look!

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: 3 Garage Sale Finds to Use for Crafting Storage - Tool Box Jewelry Tools Storage (image)
Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: 3 Garage Sale Finds to Use for Crafting Storage – Tool Box Jewelry Tools Storage

This keeps my jewelry-making tools corralled and in a handy spot right next to my beads.

If I want to work somewhere else in the house, it’s easy to close the lid and transport my tools wherever I need to go.

Now, if you’re looking for a great way to display some of your crafty goodness, look no further than a wooden DVD storage cabinet!

Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: 3 Garage Sale Finds to Use for Crafting Storage - DVD Cabinet for Craft Project Display (image)
Craft Storage: Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Use: 3 Garage Sale Finds to Use for Crafting Storage – DVD Cabinet for Craft Project Display

This cabinet was originally designed to hang vertically, but I added some little angle brackets from the hardware store, along with some screws and anchors, and I have a shelf that fits perfectly above my book case and allows me to display some of my carefully crafted projects.

You could, of course, use this method to store just about anything on a shelf, all from something you can pick up at a garage sale for a few bucks.

So, when you’re out prowling around garage sales (and flea markets, yard sales and vintage fairs) keep an eye out for things that can be used as crafting supplies, tools and projects storage.

Shiny and new is nice, but when you’re on a budget, it’s nice to find storage solutions with character that work for your space.

I hope I’ve inspired you to think outside the box and re-purpose something that works great for you!
